RES launches Code of Conduct
12 Nov 2020
The RES has launched a code of conduct that will apply to its members and to all those engaging in its events and activities. The code reinforces the importance of a professional environment in economics where all are able to participate freely so that equal opportunity and fair treatment apply regardless of characteristics, and where professional activities are undertaken collegially, ethically and with integrity. New and renewing members will be required to confirm their acceptance of the code as a condition of membership.
The Society is working on recommendations for investigative procedures and sanctions related to the code which will be presented to the next Annual General Meeting.
President Carol Propper said “Our members told us during the last strategy consultation that they wanted the RES to promote a more professional, tolerant and inclusive culture in the discipline. This code builds on the guidelines we have provided in the last two years for those attending RES events.”
The code will complement other guidelines employed by the Society, such as the COPE guidelines for journal editors.
