RES Annual Public Lecture 2022: book your place

The Royal Economic Society is pleased to announce that the RES Annual Public Lecture 2022 will take place on 8 June at the University of Reading and 14 June at the University of Glasgow. The lecture will be provided by Prof Jagjit S. Chadha OBE on the subject of 'Money Minders: The parables, trade-off and lags of central banking'.

Established in 2001, our Annual Public Lecture provides an opportunity for school students to watch internationally renowned economists present their research. Principally aimed at sixth form students, the APL has become an established part of the senior school calendar and is free to attend.  

Each host venue has planned various fringe events to ensure your visit is really well spent:

University of Reading

The University of Reading is also offering several taster workshops on the following themes:

  • Can Economics help with the Gender Pay Gap?
  • What is Behavioural Economics?
  • Could you do Monetary Policy?

Attendees will also have an opportunity to meet Department of Economics staff and students, as well as explore campus and the benefits of studying Economics at Reading.

University of Glasgow

The University of Glasgow is hosting a visiting day for local schools. The aim of the day is to inform, inspire and enthuse young people about Economics, and more broadly about considering university as an option for the future.

Schedule for the day:

  • 10.00 - 10.15 Arrival and registration
  • 10.15 – 11.15 - Can't we just print more money? - Active learning session with Jack Meaning and Rupal Patel (Bank of England)
  • 11.15 – 11.30 – Short Break
  • 11.30 – 12.15 - What do Economists do? - an interactive session with the Bank of England, HM Treasury and the Health Foundation
  • 12.15 – 13.00 – Lunch
  • 13.00 – 13.45 - Thinking about University? - including sessions on the admissions process, what makes a good personal statement, what it’s like to study at university
  • 13.45 - 14.00 Short break
  • 14.00 - 15.00 Annual Public Lecture from the Royal Economic Society with Professor Jagjit S. Chadha OBE.
