Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office launches Next Generation Economics Competition

24 Mar 2021

This year the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has launched the Next Generation Economics Competition.

The competition is aiming to address a lack of diversity in the economics profession by reaching students who would not otherwise consider studying the subjects.

The Next Generation Economics Competition asks students in years 10-13 (in England and Wales, or the equivalents in Scotland and Northern Ireland) to submit a letter to the department’s Chief Economist on one of two questions:

  1. Which economic policies should governments introduce to tackle the impacts of climate change on your generation?
  2. Which economic policies should governments introduce to tackle rising global inequality?

Please contact NextGenerationEconomics@fcdo.gov.uk if you are interested in an FCDO economist virtually visiting your school or if you would like further information about the competition. The closing date for entries is 21 May 2021.

RES hosts a Young Economist of the Year competition with the Financial Times for A-Level sixth-form students. This will be opening for 2021 in April with the winner announced in October. You can read more about the competition and past winners here.
