The RES is pleased to announce that the 2019 Royal Economic Society Prize has been awarded to Jane Humphries and Jacob Weisdorf for their article ‘Unreal Wages? Real Income and Economic Growth in England, 1260-1850,’ in which the authors argue that that modern economic growth started not in the 19th century, as is typically argued, but in the late 16th Century, some 200 years earlier than previously thought.
The Royal Economic Society prize is awarded by a committee consisting of the RES President, a representative of The Economic Journal Editorial Board and one member of Council. The paper was published in the October 2019 issue of The Economic Journal.
