Westminster Development Studies Symposium 2020
19 Jun 2020 12:00AM - 12:00AM
Third party events
The Westminster Development Studies Symposium “Is Market-led Development Enough? Global Comparisons and the Challenges Lying Ahead”, organised by the University of Westminster’s Development Policy Network in collaboration with the Westminster International University in Tashkent is now in its third year. Last year, our keynote speaker, Professor Kunal Sen, talked about whether globalisation can cause premature deindustrialisation. You can find further information on last year’s event here: Westminster Development Studies Symposium 2019
For the 2020 round of the Symposium, we will facilitate a discussion on the debate regarding market-led approaches to development, the challenges and opportunities these pose for countries in the Global South, and the alternatives we have available; with specific attention to dynamics of adverse incorporations into global production networks and social policy provisions. This year, we are happy to host keynote presentations from Professor Andy Mckay (University of Sussex), Dr Miguel Nino-Zarazua (UNU-WIDER), and Professor Hans-Jörg Schmerer (FernUniversität in Hagen).
We welcome all relevant submissions on the topic, please submit your full papers or extended abstracts (1000 word max.) to Serena Masino (email@example.com), by 31st March 2020. Authors of accepted papers will be notified by 15th April 2020.
