PhD Financial Assistance Fund
Limited financial assistance is available for postgraduate students wanting to attend our Annual Conference. The level of support depends on whether you are presenting a paper at our Conference or not.
Presenting a paper
If you are a member of the Society and a postgraduate presenting a paper at our Annual Conference you can claim for registration fees, accommodation and travel after the Conference ends. Following your attendance at the Conference you will be able to access a claim form from this page.
You pay for the conference registration and we will refund the cost of early bird registration for RES members.
We will refund up to three nights accommodation for campus-based student accommodation. If you require accommodation for two or three nights, you should select the relevant registration package which includes accommodation. All accomodation is a single bedroom with en-suite bathroom.
We will reimburse members a 2nd class, off-peak advance purchase return rail fare, or its equivalent, within the UK up to £100. It is expected that tickets are purchased well in advance. Original tickets used for travel along with receipts demonstrating advance purchase and standard class must be provided in any claim.
Not presenting a paper
If you are a member of the Society and a PhD student registered at a UK university who wishes to attend our Annual Conference, you can apply for our PhD student discount scheme. Non-UK students can also apply under this scheme, however any support will depend on available funds.
You must be registered in, or beyond, second year of a UK based PhD in economics at the time of attending the Conference. You should contact your PhD Director or Head of Department at your institution. They should send an email supporting your attendance and provide your full name and email address to email@example.com putting ‘PhD Financial Assistance Fund’ as the subject line.
Registrations that do not match the list of supported students provided by PhD Directors/Heads of Department will be voided.
For qualifying PhD students, we will cover the cost of full registration (minus £25) which includes all sessions and social events. You will be contacted with details on how to register following the PhD lead support email. Note that failure to attend the conference once booked may result in an administration fee being recharged back to your institution.
We will not cover travel or accommodation expenses – it is expected that eligible PhD students will be funded by their department or by themselves.
