PhD Financial Assistance Fund

Limited financial assistance is available for postgraduate students wanting to attend our Annual Conference. The level of support depends on whether you are presenting a paper at our Conference or not. 

Presenting a paper – PhD Assistance Scheme

Criteria

In order to receive financial assistance you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be a member of the Society
  • Be a postgraduate presenting a paper at the Conference
  • Be a full-time PhD student (Please note full time employed or fully-funded PhD students are not eligible)

Assistance

Following your attendance at the Conference you will be able to access a claim form from this page. You can claim:

  • Conference registration at the early bird registration rate for RES members
  • Accommodation up to £75 per night, up to a maximum of three nights

In order to claim expenses you will need to provide the following:

  • Conference registration fee receipt (in your name or an explanation if paid by a third party)
  • Accommodation receipt
  • Certificate of attendance - obtained from the RES desk at the Conference

Please note we will not cover travel expenses – it is expected that eligible PhD students will be funded by themselves, their department or elsewhere.

Not presenting a paper - PhD Discount Scheme

Criteria

In order to receive financial assistance you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be a member of the Society
  • Be a PhD student registered at a UK university, registered in, or beyond, second year of a UK based PhD in economics at the time of attending the Conference
  • Be a full-time PhD student (Please note full time employed or fully-funded PhD students are not eligible)
  • Have the support of your PhD Director or Head of Department at your institution.  (They should send an email supporting your attendance and provide your full name and email address to resoffice@res.org.uk putting ‘PhD Financial Assistance Fund’ as the subject line. Registrations that do not match the list of supported students provided by PhD Directors/Heads of Department will be voided).
  • Non-UK students can also apply under this scheme, however any support will depend on available funds. 

Assistance

Following your attendance at the Conference you will be able to access a claim form from this page. You can claim:

  • Conference registration at the early bird registration rate for RES members, minus £25

In order to claim expenses you will need to provide the following:

  • Conference registration fee receipt (in your name or an explanation if paid by a third party)
  • Certificate of attendance – obtained from the RES desk at the Conference. Please note that claims for 3 day conference registration must have a certificate of attendance dated the first day of the Conference.

Please note we will not cover travel or accommodation expenses – it is expected that eligible PhD students will be funded by themselves, their department or elsewhere.
