The Royal Economic Society holds elections each year for members to serve on the Council. SIX members are elected annually and serve for a period of five years. The 2012 Election (for members to sit on Council 2013-2018) was held online for the first time during September 2012, using Polldaddy to administer the online election. All current RES members received an invitation email with a link to the online ballot paper. Members were asked to place crosses (X) against their preferred names – to a maximum of six names. The online ballot remained open for 3 weeks – until 8th October 2012. (For the minority of members for whom we do not currently have an email address, a postal ballot was sent out as in previous years, with a closing date of 31st October).
Taking into account proposals submitted by members, a list of names has been drawn up by the Society's Nominating Committee and approved by the RES Council. Brief biographical notes provided by the candidates were available via both (i) a link provided in both an explanatory email, an invitation to vote email and (ii) a link displayed within the online ballot screen. Once the RES Council Election invitation email was received members considered the candidates’ biographical notes, and then accessed the Polldaddy online ballot paper to submit their vote. Polldaddy completed the election process by sending a verification email.
RES Council Results will be announced following ratification by the AGM in April 2013 when the new cohort will take up their position on the Council.
The online election process resulted in a doubling of the number of ballots received and therefore this process will be continued in future years. If you have any queries, please contact the RES office at royaleconsoc@st-andrews.ac.uk.
