The British Association for the Advancement of Science
Annual Festival of Science took place from 6-11 September at Cardiff
University. This year, Section F (economics), under the Presidency
of Professor Sir James Mirrlees of the University of Cambridge,
1996 Nobel Laureate and former President of the Royal Economic Society,
featured a series of presentations on the uncertainties of economic
growth, economic policy, economic forecasting, the stock market,
exchange rates, the welfare state and the crisis in East Asia:
