The Economics of Equality
British Association Annual Festival of Science 1997

The British Association for the Advancement of Science Annual Festival of Science took place from 7-12 September at the University of Leeds. This year, Section F (economics), under the presidency of Professor Tony Atkinson, Warden of Nuffield College, Oxford and President of the Royal Economic Society, featured a series of presentations on the economics of equality, opportunity, poverty, unemployment and social exclusion:

  • Labour Market Flexibility and Skills Acquisition: Is there a Trade-Off? - Speaker: Professor Alison Booth, University of Essex and CEPR
    Are British Workers Getting More Skilled? - Speaker: Professor Francis Green, University of Leeds
  • Opportunity and Equality in a Global Economy - Speaker: Larry Elliott, Economics Editor, The Guardian
