THE AUSTIN ROBINSON MEMORIAL PRIZE

We are pleased to announce the introduction of the Austin Robinson Memorial Prize. The prize is for the best paper published in The Economic Journal by an author who is within five years of completing their PhD. The prize will be given annually and is worth £2,000. The prize will be chosen by the Economic Journal editors and awarded in the year following publication.

The winner for 2007 was Andrew Sweeting, Duke University, for his paper "Market Power in the England and Wales Wholesale Electricity Market 1995-2000". A committee of Professor Wendy Carlin, Professor Andrew Scott and Professor John Vickers felt that this paper combined strong analytical foundations and excellent empirics to produce insight into an important applied topic.
