The file betting.raw contains the data used to estimate the regressions in the paper entitled "Why is there a Favourite-Longshot Bias in British Racetrack Betting Markets" by Leighton Vaughan Williams and David Paton, published in the Economic Journal, January 1997, vol. 107 pp. 150-8.

betting.raw contains the following variables:

rn = number of runners
D = sum of starting prices - 1
varp = Shin's "variance" of starting prices
hc3 = dummy for high grade handicap races
move = dummy for races in which FP > 1.4*SP

The results in the paper were generated using STATA version 4.0.
