Article Title: 'Foreign Direct Investment and Growth in EP and IS Countries' by Balasubramanyam et al

File size: 18KB

Description of data: There are five data files, excluding the README file, namely:

LDC46.DAT
EP18.DAT
IS28.DAT
WB10EP.DAT
WB24IS.DAT

Data in each of the files are arranged as follows:

COLUMN 1 Serial number of observations in the sample
COLUMN 2 Average annual percentage growth rate of real gross domestic product (GDP)
COLUMN 3 Average annual ratio of foreign direct investment to GDP (%)
COLUMN 4 Average annual ratio of domestic investment to GDP (%)
COLUMN 5 Average annual percentage growth rate of labour force
COLUMN 6 Average annual percentage growth rate of real exports

LDC46.DAT: This file contains data on all the 46 developing countries in our sample, arranged in ascending order of their imports-to-GDP ratio (see the Appendix table of our paper for the list of these countries).

EP18.DAT: This file contains data on the 18 export-promoting countries in our sample. These countries are selected on the basis of the CUSUM-CUSUMSQ test (see Appendix table of our paper for list of these countries - the last 18 countries in the file LDC46.DAT)

IS28.DAT: These are the import-substituting countries in our sample, selected on the basis of the CUSUM/CUSUMSQ test. They are the first 28 countries in the file LDC46.DAT (see Appendix table of our paper for the list of these countries).

WB10EP.DAT: This file contains data on the 10 countries from our sample that correspond to the World Bank classification of export-promoting countries (see Appendix table of our paper for the list of these countries).

WB24IS.DAT: This file contains data on the 24 countries from our sample that correspond to the World Bank classification of import-substituting countries (see Appendix table of our paper for the list of these countries).
