The data on the number of Scientists and Engineers involved in R&D are taken from
various issues of "The Statistical Abstract of the United States" and from "Historical Statistics of the United States: Colonial Times to 1970.
Data on population in working age for the U.S. are taken from the CEP-OECD data set,
see Bagliano et al. (1991).
Data on the unemployment rate, growth rate of GDP per capita and the number of vacancies
are taken from the OECD-CEP data set, see Bagliano et al. (1991).
