Analysis by Theodore Koutmeridis, presented at the Royal Economic Society’s 2013 annual conference last week suggests that rising inequality in the US since the 1970s can be explained by the rising equality of opportunity in education.  His study seeks to explain how countries such as the US have experienced a rise in opportunity over the last few decades as well as a rise in inequality.
