Nominations for RES Council and President Open

  • Published Date: 16 August 2017

Society members are invited to propose names for both the RES Council (for the period April 2018-2023) and the next President-Elect (for term starting April 2018). Any member of the Society who would like to make a nomination should email the Secretary General at resoffice@res.org.uk as soon as possible, and at the latest by 4th September 2017.

In order to nominate someone, please provide your membership number, the nominee’s name, a note from them expressing their interest and either their CV summary or a link to an online CV. Self-nominations are welcome for possible Council membership.

The Society's Nominations Committee will meet in September 2017 to consider all nominations. From these, the Nominations Committee will put forward to Council a list of twelve names for the Council Elections. This list will then be subject to a ballot of all members of the Society early in 2018 in order to elect six new members of Council. The Presidential nomination will also be presented to the Council Meeting in December 2017. The successful candidates will join Council and be ratified as President-Elect after formal adoption at the AGM, held during the 2018 RES Annual Conference in Sussex.

PROCEDURE
1. The proposals are considered by the Council’s Nominating Committee which now meets yearly, to nominate names for President and to consider names for Council. Other names may be added to those already proposed by members. The Nominating Committee draws up a list of at least twice the number of vacancies.
2. The Nominating Committee consists of five members appointed by Council, plus the President ex-officio.
3. The Nominating Committee are asked to bear in mind the need to have on Council economists in different occupations and fields and based in different locations.
4. The recommendations of the Nominating Committee are passed to Council for consideration. The Council then approves the final list of names to go to a ballot of all members. This list is notified to the Executive Committee (trustees). The list of potential nominees are invited to take part in the election by providing a short biography.
5. A ballot of all members of the Society takes place with a short biography of each nominee and a voting process through the Society office before the Annual General meeting each year. Elections are held online using an emailed survey.
6. The results of the elections are reported to Council for adoption before presentation to the Annual General Meeting. Council members elected in the Council Election will serve from the following AGM for a period of 5 years.
