EJ to stop publishing Features Issues

  • Published Date: 16 June 2015

The Economic Journal has for many years published Features Issues, which included symposia, special articles and articles on data and technology. The symposia and special articles covered topical policy-relevant questions in contemporary economics and, whilst maintaining high academic standards, were accessible to a wide readership. Features issues have also included extensive Book Reviews by specialist economists.

These Features articles have made an important and valuable contribution. However, the number of submissions to the Economic Journal has continued to increase and is now over 1100 a year. This is a great sign of the success of the journal, but also has put considerable pressure on the Editorial team. We now have over a year of accepted papers waiting to be published (available via Accepted Articles and Early View). Despite these pressures we have managed to keep turnaround times remarkably low, and we believe that this is very important for the journal. We have decided that the best way forward for the journal is to focus on the Regular articles and so with immediate effect we will no longer consider articles submitted to Features. We will continue to deal with those Features articles that are already in process. This means that the final Features issue will probably be published in 2016.
