The Annual Conference aims to bring together economists from government, industry, higher education, the financial sector, and journalism. The conference is open to all those interested in analytical economics and policy problems; members of the Society are able to attend at reduced rates. The conference takes place near the Easter break and lasts three days. A selection of the papers presented at the conference forms the March issue of The Economic Journal in the following year. In addition, there are a number of special lectures during the conference as well as sessions devoted entirely to policy issues and special sessions for young economists to present the results of their research and exchange ideas with their peers. In recent years, displays of computer equipment and software have also been introduced.

Financial support for Postgraduate Students attending the RES Conference
All PhD students who are members of the RES (regardless of their nationality) and are not in full time employment can apply to the Royal Economic Society to have their conference fee refunded as well as their accommodation and travel expenses covered. This application is made after the conference via an online claim form which will be available immediately after the conference. As well as the online claim form applicants will also be required to supply original receipts to support the claim. A fixed budget will be allocated between all applicants to this scheme and therefore an applicant cannot be guaranteed to have all their travel expenses covered for certain but the RES is usually able to cover the majority of claims made. The RES2011 Annual Conference will be held at Royal Holloway, University of London, 18-20 April 2011.

The RES2012 Annual Conference will be held at the University of Cambridge, dates to be confirmed.
